Five of the six CNS trucks: #0 (Billy Harkins), #02 (Johnson Steve), #7x (Dave Deines), #17 (Paul Deines), #26 (Brian Pacheco), and #47(John Luck) raced the 3/8 mile asphalt oval 100 lap feature as expected, in front. The Snap-On Pro Trucks were able to do this because they have a few handling advantages over the rest of the field. They incorporate Port City chassis which are originally built as tour cars then converted to trucks. They also use coil over suspension and rank 'n pinion steering. The rest of the field, on the other hand, uses a big spring suspension and a conventional GM steering box. The five better handling Pro Trucks were able to get around the track faster and lap the rest of the field, except for one.
In a race full of yellow flags, re-positioning, bumps, spin outs and restarts, Eddie Tidwell driving the #66 Gary's Speed Shop Ford was the only super truck capable of running with the CNS trucks. Tidwell, who'd raced his regular dirt late model ride in Muskogee, OK the night before, had been away from super truck racing since October of 2000 but faired well. "Eddie raced against drivers that run a twenty race program. This truck has only seen two short track shows this year. A sixth place finish against these guys ain't too shabby." commented truck owner Gary Sevenans.
When it was all said and done, Billy Harkins #0 Performax GMC came out on top. Congratulations to the Performax Racing team!
