Flu Stricken Deatherage wins the Battle of the Supertrucks
When Greg Deatherage got to Albuquerque for the final PRO Super truck Series even this year he wasn't sure if he could last through the 100 lap main event. "Man I was so sick, I though I was going to barf in my helmet!" Deatherage said after winner the event, and "This Gary's Speed Shop Ford was so fast tonight that it made my job allot easier, but we also had luck with us."
Deatherage's luck started to look bad when on lap 17 his right front tire went flat causing a yellow flag. After making a pit stop to change the tire he was forced to restart at the rear of the field. JR Baxter, the 2000 Creamland Southwest Supertruck Champion, found with 2000 PRO Supertruck Steve Allison and the 1999 PRO Champion Joe Madore. Madore and Deatherage battled with Madore holding the point until a caution flag was thrown on lap 47. Luck again struck Deatherage, only this time in his favor, as a scoring mistake moved him to the front of the field. "He we probably going to get around us anyway, his truck was definitely faster, but I think we could have lead till halfway" said Madore. "Greg must have been carrying his lucky charm tonight because he sure got a bunch of breaks" said Madore. Madore also said referring to another caution brought out by Deatherage on lap 97 when he spun to avoid the lapped truck of Jeff Hughes, official ruled in Deatherage's favor and returned him to the front of the field. He went on to the lead the final three laps and win the event.
Madore finished second followed by Eddie Tidwell, who earned the Hard Charger award for his run from last to third.
